Creating a Compassionate Society

Here are small things everyone can do to create a more sustainable, compassionate society. You do not have to do all of them all the time, but doing a little bit every once in a while will have a tremendous effect on the the world.
1. Buy local. Shop at farmer's markets, co-ops, or local grocery chains when possible. Instead of buying at big box stores, go to local shops, even if they are second-hand stores. Your money will go farther and you will be putting your money back in the community.
2. Put your money in credit unions. That money will be used to invest in your community.
3. Drive less. Walk, bike, and use public transit when you can.
4. Eat less meat. Meat is costly and conventional cattle/pig/lamb processors are very hard on the environment.
5. Do not buy any Nestle products. This company is attempting to buy up all the water rights all over the country in order to sell it at a huge profit to US citizens. It is predicted that by 2022, one-third of the US population will not be able to afford water. Do not put your money in the hands of people who will use it against you.
6. Meet people who are different from you. Get to know them. The lies we have been told about each other is causing us all to hate and fear blindly, when the greatest thing we can do is stand with/by each other.
7. Buy only fair trade chocolate. Almost all other chocolate is produced with child slavery.
8. If you ever see anyone who needs help, offer to help.
9. Buy less stuff and spend your money and energy building relationships with people. We are here to love people and use things, not the other way around
10. Show compassion for those who are being persecuted in whatever way you can. Try and understand their experience. Listen when they are angry. Be there for them when they are frightened.
11. Read books.
12. Learn new skills.
13. Get to know, accept and love yourself a little bit more each day.
14. Use alternative medicine when you can. Western medicine is now run by pharmaceutical companies who want as many people as possible hooked on the drugs they sell. They pay doctors to prescribe them though they know most are not at all effective. Naturopaths, Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, and other health care practitioners will not only help keep your body in balance, they will teach you how to listen to and understand your body.
